As we head into a new chapter of our lives, it is important to reflect on all the accomplishments of the prior year. Take some time at the start of the new year to highlight moments you are proud of, moments you enjoyed, moments you are most grateful for, and moments you have learned the most from. When you take the time to reflect and really learn from previous experiences you can move forward with the important wisdom necessary to make better choices and lead a more fulfilling life.
Journaling and photos can be a great way to keep track of your achievements and memorable moments. Since the years tend to melt together, one method for reflection is just looking back through your phone all the videos and photos you’ve taken. Your phone keeps track of the date you did everything for you.
If you didn’t keep a journal this year, perhaps consider it for 2023 if you are having trouble remembering everything that happened in 2022. Your journal doesn’t need to be fancy, but I personally am more willing to do something if it’s aesthetically pleasing. Plus there are plenty of journals with daily or weekly prompts to help you get started, but there are also tons of free prompts just one search away.
If you’re still having troubles thinking of what to reflect on, let me help and give you some prompts to help you get started: How did 2022 go overall? Keep this short and simple or even just use a smiley face chart. What were some accomplishments? Write them all down!
Did you celebrate those accomplishments no matter the size? If not, New Years is a great time to celebrate it all. What did you learn? You should never stop learning and growing. If you’re having trouble with this one it’s time to add more challenges to your life. What are you grateful for? No matter the situation there is good to be found, even if it’s just “I woke up today”. What do you want to tell yourself after going through 2022? You can answer these as short, sweet bullet points or in paragraph form, really whatever makes your heart happy.
After reflecting on 2022 you may as well take some time to prepare for 2023. Write how you are feeling now after all the experience you’ve gained, how you feel about the future to come and what you want for yourself in 2023. The better you know what you want, the more likely your dreams will manifest into your reality. Whether you believe in manifestation or not, just having the mindset change is the biggest part of achieving any goal. Start your new year with the attitude of “I can and will have it all! Because I can”.
Now is a great time to not just set some goals but to also make a plan to stay on course for those goals. Personally, the only way I ever get anything done is by having an “accountability buddy” which can be someone you know or even using social media.
However, having an entire fanbase of followers relying on you and waiting for the results can be a lot of pressure… So, if you don’t want a ton of pressure I would recommend finding a friend and if they are up to it, work on setting goals together. Their goals don’t have to be the same as yours, they are just someone to check in with and you can do the same for them.
Mapping out your goals through a timeline is a great way to stay realistic and get those goals done in a timely fashion. Make sure you are writing long term and short term goals! “Work out more” isn’t very specific. So, start with “I want to work out 3x a Week and by Summer I want to work out 5x a week”. Give yourself the time to adapt to this new habit and celebrate when you do create this new habit. “I’ve been working out 3x a week for 2 months now!”. Map your course, track your progress, adjust where needed, give yourself the time you need to really achieve your goals and celebrate those achievements!
