As we are all navigating our new normal it can be challenging to stay motivated and stick with a routine.  It can become extremely depressing when we don’t have our normal things that bring us joy, like pole and aerial.  When I think about how long it’s been since I held onto an aerial hoop, hammock or silk, it makes me want to cry. I never thought that something so important to me could be taken away so quickly.  The world is full of unexpected things however it’s up to each individual on how they handle those unexpected things.  One can choose to find negativity around what is occurring and do nothing, or one can choose to find positivity, adjust and show up.

When I look at my current situation with not being able to play on an aerial apparatus for months, I could do one of two things.  I could tell myself; I’m going to lose so much strength and it will take me forever to get back to where I was or maybe I will never get back to where I was.  The second choice, I could take this time to refocus.  I will focus on what I can do.  I can take conditioning, flexibility, dance cardio or any of the other bajillion classes, Aerial Dance Wisconsin is offering.  The instructors have a robust training program they go through to become an instructor so they know what conditioning exercises are needed to help maintain those muscles.

Here is the thing, you need to choose to show up.  If you aren’t happy with your current situation, then do something about it.  Don’t get discouraged, you need to adjust and refocus. I know it sucks that we can’t play together in person, or on all the poles and aerial equipment, however; we are offering community, positivity and an intensive class schedule.  Yes, silks might be your favorite apparatus, and maybe you can’t do that right now, but don’t get all negative about it and stop showing up.  Go play on a chair in a virtual chair workshop.  It will be just as fun, plus you get to learn something new.

Again, we are all in this together.  We are a community and a sisterhood.  We have each other however that means, we all have to show up.  Make sure you take this time to  adjust and refocus, set some goals and show up consistently.  Your future self with thank you.
