“Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How It Can Help YouFind – and Keep – Love” by Amir Levine

This is the best “self development” book I have read recently. It looks at your relationships in a different way and helps you identify your attachment style. For me this was mind blowing. That information holds the key to why past relationships didn’t work and helps you navigate your current relationship. It is seriously amazing to walk away with a deeper understanding of your biological reactions to your partner and to know your intimacy (and this doesn’t mean sex) needs will help you ask for and get a truly supportive relationship.

August book – meeting on August 29 at 4:30pm at Nakashima’s of Japan in Appleton.

“Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead” by Brené Brown

Brené Brown is a Goddess in the self development world. We’ve covered two of her other works years ago so it was time to read another. The book club voted and this was the winner. This book is an excellent read to help you live your most authentic and real life. Many thought provoking ideas are presented in and and you’ll take something away from reading. The bonus is listening to “The Power of Vulnerability” which is only available on Audible and will tie into the discussion.

October book – meeting on October 17 at 4:30pm at Nakashima’s of Japan in Appleton.

Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person” by Shonda Rhimes

From the creator of “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Private Practice” and “How to get away with murder” comes this gem. Do you find yourself stuck? Not fully engaging or living in your life? This book talks about how saying yes can change everything. And that saying yes actually can mean saying now. Filled with humor as well as great advice, this book is a fun listen that gives lots of helpful takeaways and simple ways to improve your daily life.

December book – meeting on December 5 at 4:30pm at Nakashima’s of Japan in Appleton.

“Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle” by Emily Nagoski & Amelia Nagoski

Join sisters Emily & Amelia as they discuss how to avoid burnout and improve your life. This book has great humor but also many tips or things to think about why you may be feeling exhausted. In an unexpected discussion they also talk about social pressures and societal expectations as contributing factors and how accepting them may help you release them. Get tips, tricks, an understand and solidarity with the pressures women face and how life doesn’t have to be overwhelming. An enjoyable read and will be a great catalyst for discussion!
