I’m a voracious reader. A few years ago, while on my own foray into personal development books, some of the books I was reading resonated so strongly with me I thought some of our members may enjoy reading them too. “Smart is Sexy” the Aerial Dance book club was created! Since then we’ve read a book a month (ish), we have discussion on the closed FB page, and meeting to discuss the book in person over sushi and cocktails. It’s one of my favorite nights of the month because the conversation is truly excellent no matter what book or if everyone attending even read it. All books selected I carefully curate, meaning I’ve already read them and they are worth reading. I know time is short for our women so I want to make sure everything selected is worth your time. Learning is hot. Working on yourself is sexy. So here’s what coming up in book club the next few months. There has never been a better time to join us! All current Aerial Dance students are welcome!!!!!
May book – Meeting on May 16 at 4:30pm at Nakashima’s of Japan in Appleton.
“In Awe: Rediscover Your Childlike Wonder to Unleash Inspiration, Meaning, and Joy” by John O’Leary.
This book is sunshine and glitter. I picked it because after the long, hard year we need to remember the joy. It has some great tips and tricks to focus on to improve your life in little ways daily. I personally have taken “why not” from the book and it has given me a lot more adventure and courage. It’s an easy fun read. If you are having difficulty remember and finding joy, you need this book. If you have wanted to join book club but have been nervous about it, this is a great read to start with.
June book – Meeting on June 20 at 4:30pm at Nakashima’s of Japan in Appleton.
“Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself Hardcover” by Nedra Glover Tawwab
The older I get, the more I realize boundaries are the most important thing for living your values. Learning to set them and enforce them in challenging but completely change quality of life once in place. With so many women openly talking about how busy they are and how overwhelmed they feel, learning about boundaries is an important tool. This book does a nice job breaking down different type of boundaries and giving useful tips to implement them. Unlike other books on the topic, you’ll walk away from this with actual tools to help you create healthy boundaries in your own life.
July book – meeting on July 25 at 4:30pm at Nakashima’s of Japan in Appleton.
This is the best “self development” book I have read recently. It looks at your relationships in a different way and helps you identify your attachment style. For me this was mind blowing. That information holds the key to why past relationships didn’t work and helps you navigate your current relationship. It is seriously amazing to walk away with a deeper understanding of your biological reactions to your partner and to know your intimacy (and this doesn’t mean sex) needs will help you ask for and get a truly supportive relationship.
If you’ve never come to book club, these three books are all great and a great opportunity to learn about yourself. Work out your mind as well as your body at Aerial Dance! Join us in Smart is Sexy!!!!
