I am still coming off the high that was the Aerial Dance Annual Show! I had such a blast and am in complete awe of every single person who performed!! The annual show is my favorite time of year at Aerial Dance, from the moment songs are announced to the final moments of the show. The entire experience boosts my mood and has been instrumental in my pole career too. Being in the show not only allows you to meet new people you maybe haven’t talked to before, but it also pushes you to try things you haven’t yet or try moves with another person around you. Then being able to see everyone else’s routines and screaming for excitement on show day is just the best!
I remember meeting with my groups for our first practices and all of us were like, “Okay, what are we doing? Who’s able to do what and who wants to try?” We send all of these crazy ideas we see online and luckily our instructors are like “Yeah, we can figure that out” or “No, it looks like you’re pooping”. So glad our instructors are looking out for us and our picture potential! But for real, our first practice was just trying a bunch of wild moves, getting spotted in weird inside leg hangs, or seeing what each of us were comfortable with and determining who’s going to be the base and who’s the flyer.
It was wild to think that by our final instructor-led practice we had a full routine put together and then it was just working on stamina and working out the kinks! Then by dress rehearsal we’re just trying to get the timing down for all of the dancey bits! We all worked so hard for about 2 months, going to individual practices, practicing during our normal pole classes, going to open studios and show practices. I got way closer with my groups in those 2 months than I would have probably in a year of classes with these ladies. Some I’d never met before the show practices and now I have another friendly face to say hi to in passing in the studio and I love it!
Then the day of the show happens and everyone is jittery, nervous, loading up on grip way before the show starts, cause you can never have too much grip on show day! Then you blink and it’s over with! While I’m sad it’s over again, my body is happy that it can finally rest, but also I’m already excited for next year and seeing what amazing things everyone will do again! This studio has no lack in talents, across all levels and if you performed in the show, just know that I’m so proud of you, and excited for you! Every woman that got up on that stage did a phenomenal job and I hope you do it again next year! Because I am going to be cheering you on along with everyone else! <3
