As the back-to-school season kicks in, life tends to get a little chaotic, especially for moms! Between early drop-offs, packing lunches, after-school sports, and homework help (along with working full time jobs for many of us) carving out time for yourself—especially for exercise—can feel nearly impossible. But keeping your body moving doesn’t have to be another item on the already overwhelming to-do list. With a little creativity and flexibility, staying active can be part of your new routine.
Here are a few simple ways to sneak in exercise during the school-year rush:
- Make the Most of Mornings
Even a 10-minute walk or stretch session before the day starts can energize you and set a positive tone. If mornings are rushed, try a quick home workout while the kids are eating breakfast or getting dressed. - Active Evening Time
Turn waiting time into movement time. When my daughter was younger, I used to drop her off at karate, book it to Aerial Dance for a 6 or 7 p.m. class, and then head out right away to pick her up (even if I had to leave class 5 minutes early to do it!). - Involve the Family
Make movement a family activity. Post-dinner walks, weekend hikes, or dance breaks while doing chores can help everyone stay active—and spend time together. - Schedule It Like a Meeting
This is where scheduling our ADWI classes comes in handy, because if it’s on the calendar, it’s more likely to happen. Treat your workout like any other commitment. We do it for our kids, and should do it for ourselves too!
Back-to-school doesn’t have to mean back-burner for your wellness. A little planning and adaptability go a long way. Remember: something is always better than nothing.
You’ve got this—one burpee, climb, spin, and drop at a time.
